Training on Fire Prevention and Firefighting at UTS: To help students acquire skills to protect themselves

Equipping students with skills to protect themselves and to handle emergency situation is one of the top priorities at UTS, especially fire prevention and firefighting skills. From the school’s perspective, fire prevention and firefighting activities are always carefully prepared in the school operation including to fully equip all students, teachers, and staff at UTS with necessary knowledge and competencies. This is essential for everyone to proactively and promptly respond to the unwanted events that not only might happen at UTS campus but also anywhere else. At the beginning of each academic year, training sessions for teachers and staff are always integrated in the Professional Development Week to ensure the safest teaching and learning during the academic year. In early October, all UTS students completed the training session and gained useful knowledge in protecting themselves and their families in case there is an incident. The training session was delivered following the main topics, including: 1. Identify and instruct on the use of fire safety equipment 2. Instruct on fire evacuation plans and necessary steps during emergencies 3. Important notes and fire alarm signals at UTS To help students better visualize the possible scenarios, the instructor provided specific detailed demonstrations and practiced solving situations based on the shared principles with students. In addition to notes and guidelines to do when there is a fire, students were also informed about the causes that can lead to fires and explosions, thereby minimizing the possibility of situations and having initial preventive measures. The information conveyed in the fire prevention and firefighting training session at UTS is not limited to the application within the school campus. More than that, students are expected to be well-informed and well-applied in their daily life. UTS aims to build a practical foundation so that students are always safe no matter

[Humans of UTS] – UTS Homeroom Assistance Agent: “I love UTS’ students as my own kids!”

At UTS, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students are specially taken care by the Homeroom Assistance Agent. Our little students are the ones who are still unfamiliar with the new learning environment. The support and guidance of the teachers are stepping-stones for them to gradually adapt to school and develop their own abilities. Talking about her work, Mrs. Hong Quyen – Grade 2 Homeroom Assistance Agent shared: “Every morning, I accompany UTS-ers on the school bus. All students’ activities at school such as learning, eating and other personal needs are closely monitored and helped if necessary. My working day just ends when all the children have returned home safely after a day studying at UTS.” In the classroom, students are equipped with both academic knowledge and soft skills. Then outside, there are also special “teachers” who are ready to instruct them about the simple activities in life. Ms. Thanh Dan shared: “Although I am responsible for supporting Grade 1 students with personal activities at UTS, I always try to let the children gradually learn to be independent and actively complete the tasks. If they depend on me too much, they will have a hard time without my help when they get older.” “This job is hard, but it brings us a lot of joy. We love UTS’ students as our own kids. Therefore, we always strive to make them feel happy at school. During these days when UTS-ers had to study at home because of the pandemic, we miss them so much. We just hope the pandemic will be over in the next school year so that we can continue this special job!” – shared Mrs. Quyen. Each member of UTS family tries to nurture future talents to bring them the most comprehensive learning and playing environment. Let’s say

UTS-ers and the “adventure” to most extreme places on Earth

Do UTS-ers know that: the steepest peak is Mount Thor, Nunavut, Canada; the driest place is Atacama Desert, Chile; the tallest waterfall is Angel Falls, Venezuela; the most isolated place is Tristan da Cunha, United Kingdom whereas the densest city is Manila, Philippines, etc. There are meaningful information that students of class 7.1 researched carefully and then presented them in front of the class. Before participating in online classes in the serious period of COVID-19 pandemic, students of class 7.1 had an “adventure” to the “extreme places on Earth” in their interesting English lessons. Through the class, UTS-ers not only acquired Geography and Science knowledge, but also many English vocabulary about this topic. Not just enquiring the knowledge, UTS-ers also made illustrated models of these landscapes themselves from environmentally-friendly materials, according to the 3R principle: Reuse – Reduce – Recycle. UTS-ers must be enjoying these active and creative classes since there are spaces where UTS-ers can freely learn and be creative in their own ways. Therefore, let’s try to fight the pandemic off together and return to school to learn and play enthusiastically like this!
